platitudes by =mdog02:iconmdog02:

with tacky, cloying platitudes
we run the risk of waxing rude;
but since they're always in demand
they stay convenient, close at hand ...

placating drek is being spewed
in horrid, vile platitudes:

it all comes out in the wash
just water under the bridge
waste not want not
here today, gone tomorrow
she's in a better place now
what's done is done

... do you sometimes get the feeling that everyone around you is speaking in tongues ...?

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Seriously this is a good perspective on the way we communicate and what it means to different people...

I get that feeling each day.
Seems more and more are leasuring their words. Perhaps society is becoming more realistic and perhaps we are trying another method of communication.

I know myself I have started to measure what I say and I often speak in riddles... and wish I could speak in 'tongue'.

I like the imagination of this submit Mike.

Thanks so much for your observations Gabbie. They are, as always, highly interesting and very welcome.

So many people just parrot off these platitudes and cliches, feeling witty and well read. Its so common now,the quote. We are a lazy generation, with so many bits of technology to make life easier,so we have to do less for ourselves, and its like we're slowly finding ways to not even speak for ourselves, its sad really.
And I love the platitudes you picked, they mesh together so well, its perfect

Your excellent comment is right on the money ... er ... oops! There I go! =D I don't claim any less lazy than anyone else --- it's all too easy to fall into prefab language in this prefab, throw-away world we inhabit today; I catch myself at it constantly. I was hoping that writing this mini-poem would serve as a sort of verbal catharsis.

I'm pleased that you like the piece, and I thank you for taking the time to read it and comment. :)

I wonder what would happen if, as a society, we eliminated platitudes. Would we finally speak what we mean and be genuine?

Thank you for making me look at my manner of speach. I have some work to do on it! Great piece. :rose:

Don't judge me by my art...oh, wait, yeah...my art is my soul...hmm...sorry if I scare you! ~me!

I'd like to think that we'd converse in a more intelligent, thoughtful manner, but in reality ... perhaps we'd just descend into one big Tower of Babble (sp). =D In any case, all we can do is be mindful of trying not taking the easy road (hopefully) more often than not. :)
