Literature Text

clutched in the jungle's grasp
exists a hidden temple,
abode of spirits long forgotten.
hoary fingers pierce its shell,
ancient facets cloaked
in tangled ochre red,
lost but not forsaken...

silently i approach, wary of death's kiss;
prayers escape from eager, parted lips
and my mind floods with
reverent rites of passion.
gods are at rest in slumber's grip,
eyes wide open, evil trance,
this day to reawaken...
I worked with this quite a bit trying to give it a somewhat more conventional pace and rhythm. However, the best of my attempts read like "Mary Had a Little Lamb" which was decidedly inappropriate, so I opted to go with what got me there. My amazing friend *curiosity once described writing poetry to me as "painting pictures with words." I guess if I'm going to do that I'll have to splatter a little paint around the place from time to time.
